Because apparently it’s more humane if we let the condemned prisoner pick the meal of their chose before their execution. The bad news is this tradition dates back to the Ancient Greeks. The good news, only developing nations actually practice capitol punishment now, oh and the U.S. Yes, none of that was good news. The tradition of the last meal is strange and interesting and we thought we would give you a list of some of the requests. Happy Holidays.
John Wayne Gacy: A dozen deep-fried shrimp, a bucket of original recipe chicken from KFC, French fries, and a pound of strawberries.
Ted Bundy declined a special meal, so he was given the traditional steak (medium-rare), eggs (over-easy), hash browns, toast, milk, coffee, juice, butter, and jelly.
Timothy McVeigh: Two pints of mint chocolate-chip ice cream. Apparently PETA had been conversing with him and encouraging a vegetarian option.
Ruth Snyder: She was not served a last meal, eating the prison’s regular meal instead.
Odell Barnes: “Justice, Equality, World Peace.” It was denied.
Joan of Arc: Holy communion.
Clarence Ray Allen: Buffalo steak, Kentucky Fried Chicken, sugar-free pecan pie and sugar-free black walnut ice cream. He was a type 2 diabetic.
Saddam Hussein: Boiled Chicken and Rice
Adolf Eichmann: The German Nazi and “Architect of the Holocaust” declined a special meal, preferring a bottle of Carmel, a dry red Israeli wine. He drank about half of it.
