Alex Pardee Spring 2012 Capsule Collection

Today we announce our brand new Capsule Collection for the Spring Season with Alex Pardee, the fine artist of all things grotesque and wonderfully zombified… with a touch of gruesome. Pardee has collaborated with Upper Playground for years, and this season, he has given us a grouping of new graphics with odes to pop-culture and a reworking of our classic Walrus logo.

So Alex, what were you thinking for this Spring collection?

“I love making sandwiches. The freedom to experiment with ingredients always allows me to create new flavors that I’ve never had before. Working with Upper Playground on this new capsule collection was the art equivalent of being the chef at some weird deli. Upper Playground knows what’s good, but they always encourage me to to take what’s good and play with those ingredients to create new colors, designs, flavors and jokes that I may not have tried before. And because of this freedom, I can draw whatever I want. And if that includes drawing a feminine wizard, decapitating Robocop or even making a public service announcement for irresponsible kids, then so be it.”

Supreme x Rawlings Baseball Glove

One of our favorite parts of the Supreme Spring/Summer 2012 line is that there is nothing immediate that we feel we could wear. That means they have done good with the line; change it up, experiment, when others go classic, you go bugged out and explore new styles and prints. But the one thing that we can see ourselves committing to is the Supreme collaboration with baseball standard, Rawlings, on this nice red glove. Fresh.

Dan Zev’s trip to Isreal and Palestine

This past Spring I took a month to travel all over Israel and Palestine. The Arab Spring, sweeping through the Middle East, is a cause for apprehension among Israelis and optimism for the Palestinians. There is a palpable tension that exists just below the surface of daily life, and it can quickly break out into violence.

During my time in-country there was a bombing in Jerusalem, countless rocket and mortar attacks committed against Israel by Hammas forces based in the Gaza Strip, devastating retaliatory strikes by the IDF, and the murders of two high-profile, pro-palestinians peace activists; Juliano Mer-Khamis and Vittorio Arrigoni.

At the same time, I experienced nothing but goodwill from everyone whom I met, both Israelis and Palestinians, and had a great time taking buses and shared-taxis from city to city. The entire month, I made it a point to not stay anywhere for more than three nights in a row so that I would always be seeing something different and meeting new people. In a country that’s smaller than New Jersey, I covered a lot of ground traveling at that pace.

I always had a camera on me and was taking pictures constantly. I’m still editing everything I shot but I’ve been posting one picture each day to my Flickr account: www.flickr.com/photos/high-karate/

For anyone over the age of 20 that cares that its 4/20, here is Ras Trent

This is what you remind us of. Seriously, you are 35, you can smoke weed whenever you want, don’t tell us how excited you are for 4/20. You aren’t a freshman at UC Santa Cruz on a beautiful Spring day smoking weed outside your first philosophy class.
