DJ Shadow coming back with “The Less You Know, The Better”

After all these years, DJ Shadow has only come up with 4 LP releases, the newest coming out on October 4 via Verve (!). The Less You Know, The Better will feature collaboration vocals with Tom Vek, Talib Kweli, Posdnuos from De La Soul, and Little Dragon. We haven’t really been into a Shadow project since 2002, but we credit Entroducing… as one of the most important records of our little lives.

Here is the track with Vek. Judge for yourself if you want to get positive and back into 1996 mode.

This one is going loud in the office right now. Mr Jamie xx of The xx remixed Radiohead’s headtrip lead track of TKOL “Bloom.” He played it during his two-hour BBC Essential Mix Saturday night… you have to listen to about 2 hours of music here, but you can just fast-forward to the end to hear it in full. The track will appear on the Radiohead remix collection TKOL RMX 1234567, out October 10 in the UK and October 11 in North America. (via pitchfork).

Feist has a new single: “How Come You Never Go There” Single

feist452 2 Feist has a new single: How Come You Never Go There Single single new single metals how come you never go there feist

It is really nice to hear our favorite Canadian singer/songwriter back in the fold again. It doesn’t sound that much different than what we are used to, but to be honest, sometimes that is just about right. Feist’s new album, Metals, will be available to bootleg soon, but “in stores” on October 4.

Gilles Peterson gives us a Gil Scott-Heron mix

Gil Scott Heron Tribute Mix by Gilles Peterson 605x403 Gilles Peterson gives us a Gil Scott Heron mix mix gilles peterson gil scott heron BBC

We like BBC’s Gilles Peterson as a DJ of sometimes obscure, sometimes cutting edge, but always on point music. He was a huge Gil Scott Heron fan, and because he was such a fan and Mr. Heron recently passed away, Gilles made this fantastic mix that we listened to all Sunday, and you should listen to it, too.

Our good friend Aesop Rock just produced this new track for MURS, titled “Varsity Blues 2″. Last time MURS worked on the Varsity Blues project was 2002, but why not start it back up in 2011. Check it.

Jay Electronica strikes a good one again with “Shiny Suit Theory” featuring Jay Z and The Dream

Posted from The Citrus Report

Whenever you think hip-hop is crap and in a bad state, you have Jay Electronica and Madlib to thank for not being shit. Jay Electronica’s new track, “Shiny Suit Theory” featuring Jay Z and The Dream, is our favorite song of the moment. Sure, signing to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is a bit of “oh well, another good one bites the dust,” we have faith that he will hold onto the title of an interesting and progressive hip-hop leader.

Listen, enjoy.

We like, so listen: Rza w/ William Burk & Truth Hurts “2 Left Shoes”

Posted from The Citrus Report

In the words of Samuel L Jackson in “Jurassic Park,” … “It could have been worse, John, a lot worse.” RZA, good work here, a nice old Wu-sound. Good way to end the day.
