Spanish artist Escif completed this large mural titled “Barré” (“Locked” in French), in Montreal for Mural Festival. The massive painting of a lock is a highlight of the first edition of Mural Festival, as Escif’s effective use of depth and space transforms the site, giving it an illusion of three dimensions.
Here’s how Escif came up with the idea for the mural, located on Boulevard Saint-Laurent, “A giant lock in the wall…Why?? Is not about a locked society or how we are closed to our freedom. It’s just because I found some lock signals in front of the wall and I didn’t found a better idea…. I’m sorry! I’m sure that you will find a better interpretation than ours…” – Escif
