We give this track one of those “how the hell does he make a beat like this” moments. It just sounds more interesting than about 100% of the other hip-hop beats out there. And Madlib does about 250 of these a year.
Just getting right into it on a Monday, we go straight to Madlib’s instrumental “Dear God,” originally produced for Dudley Perkins. Who would have thought that two of the best in hip-hop would be from Oxnard, California? Do they have something in the water there…
This is the new Madlib drop with Stones Throw, Madlib Medicine Show #12: Raw Medicine – Madlib Remixes. The label have snippet of the album up on their site that we thought would be a nice way to start the week off. Madlib is on tour by the end of the year, so keep a look out.
Normally, when we feature J Dilla on the site, its in relation to our Madlib Mondays section. So we honor Dilla with this posthumous 2006 album, and his second official solo album, The Shining. Opening with the Busta Rhymes guest track “Geek Down” and ending with the classic “Won’t Do,” this album has a little bit of everything from an absolute legend.
We go back to a classic Madlib Beat Konducta track today, “Yo Yo Affair,” starring Frezna. After a long weekend in Portland, we just wanted to get back into something easy and in our all-time favorite category.
