Jaume Plensa produces monumental sculptures in steel, glass, marble, polyester resin, concrete, and bronze. He is best known for his Crown Fountain in Chicago’s Millenium Park, two 50-foot-high glass towers set amidst a pool of water, which play giant video portraits of Chicago residents that periodically purse their lips and spout water into the pool.
Predominantly producing figurative sculpture, Plensa has created larger-than-life-sized heads constructed of fine, stainless-steel wire mesh so that their surrounding environments are visible through the works, and bronze figures cast from his own body.
Aaron Glasson (previously featured here) collaborated with Celeste Byers in Tulum, Mexico. The head is hollow and inside has room for many people. Their hope is the structure is used for get togethers, alone time, ceremonies, jungle picnics, music, meditation etc. Climbing plants will be planted around the perimeter and moss will turn the head green over time.
The concept was inspired by a Maya prediction that goes as follows… Tulum was one of the first points of contact for the Europeans who evidently invaded and colonized Mexico. Architect-artist Jun Ong worked on his first large-scale light installation called The Star that was embedded in an abandoned building in Butterworth, Penang. Inspired by the notion of “glitch,” a dodecahedron – a 12-sided star-shaped installation appears almost as an error or a temporary irregularity, suddenly finding itself lodged within the concrete superstructure of an unfinished building by the street of Raja Uda.
Comprised of five hundred metres of steel cables and LED strips, the “Star” abstracts kitsch street decorations with electrical cables and transposing them into a formal, recognizable entity. The cables are anchored to ground, slabs, cantilever beams and adjacent buildings to form the overall shape. As one steps closer, the installation segregates itself into several floors, each becoming its own spatial experience.
Michael Johansson is a Swedish installation artist who takes OCD tendencies to the next level with his real-life Tetris sculptures. His passion for ordinary and useless things organized into exceptionally good-looking piles makes most neat-freaks look like the biggest slobs. Johansson is obsessed with irregularities and coincidences between to disparate objects which may only be linked by a common color or a shape.
Johansson’s precisely stacked sculptures made from ordinary objects like old computer screens, keyboards, cars and suitcases, are installed both inside the gallery and jammed into site-specific spaces.

Buenos Aires, Argentina based Karina Peisajovich received a BFA from the National School of Fine Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredón in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Peisajovich’s works decode the machinery behind representation, focusing on the idea of light, darkness and color as the grounding substance giving shape to the world of images. She structures spaces to achieve heightened perceptual experiences in which visitors become acutely conscious of their individual eye as a perceiving entity. Her time-color environments engage viewers with a simulated pre-image state where they may recognize their own processes of visual construction.
Oslo, Norway based Fredrik Raddum works with sculpture, installation, photo and performance related journeys. He has exhibited at various spaces since 2001. Raddum popularizes serious themes and embodies them in tragicomic animal and human figures resembling cartoon characters. Clichés and icons are twisted and turned in to new settings. Without obvious display of critical attitude, Raddum’s sculptures drop subtle hints encouraging the viewer to think beyond the initial encounter.
