Henrik Haven is finally ready to share his comprehensive coverage of The Crystal Ship in Ostend, Belgium!
The Crystal Ship is a contemporary art festival specialized in public space which sets sail to the city of Ostend, Belgium with talented creatives. World-renowned artists created gigantic murals and fantastic art installations that form a permanent artistic trail in the city.
The curator of The Crystal Ship, Bjørn Van Poucke, is extremely enthusiastic about the collaboration with the city of Ostend. “Nowhere else in Europe have so many artists in this genre been brought together for a joint arts festival. With The Crystal Ship, we wish to bring art to the people and that is exactly what we did: Over the course of 2 weeks we created +20 impressive murals and +200 smaller interventions. Right in the centre of the city, the place where people live and work. That is pretty unique!”

Seismic Wave is a 100 meter long mural by the danish artist Carl Krull. It is painted on the wall that encircles the Metro construction, in the middle of the lake Sortedamsøen, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The mural is done in black and white. The subject is shaped through an abundance of vertical lines, which in an almost sculptural manner makes the mural seem to protrude like ripples on the surface of the lake itself or a topographical map of the seabed. Foreground and background is entangled and repealed in universe where various formations emerge, some resemble eyes and others remain undefined.
Carl Krull is a danish artist based in Copenhagen. He is a consummate draftsman whose practice centers around drawing. Utilizing an almost sculptural approach in his drawings, the lines seem to protrude the paper in a way that resemble phenomena found in nature like the formations in stalactite caves or the growth rings found in trees. His working methods involve the invention of elaborate drawing techniques that act as constraints but simultaneously break open new territory.

Joren Joshua and Ilse Weisfelt teamed up to create this large-scale mural at Public Arts Horsens in Denmark for ArtRebels. Both young illustrators from the Netherlands have their own style, and collaborate often to produce remarkable exhibitions, murals, posters and even a memory game featuring their art.

Guemy, who specializes in stencil graffiti, painted four murals for Public Art Horsens, curated by ArtRebels.
