James Jean has a new solo show

Posted from The Citrus Report

James Jean, who showed with David Choe at our exhibition we held with Good Smile in Tokyo in late October 2010, has a new solo show at Martha Otero opening March 2011 featuring 7 new large scale paintings, 6 of which have yet to be fully unveiled (because the 7th is below, it is called Tiger).  And Ninja likes them too.

James Jean’s new solo show “Rebus” at Martha Otero LA in March 2011

James Jean, who showed with David Choe at our exhibition we held with Good Smile in Tokyo in late October 2010, has a new solo show at Martha Otero opening March 2011 featuring 7 new large scale paintings, 6 of which have yet to be fully unveiled (because the 7th is below, it is called Tiger). There is also going to be a special wallpaper installation, and you know how we feel about wallpaper installations. We love them.

Nice of Ninja to help in the photo shoot. At first we thought he was wearing a Rico Deniro piece, but we must just have Rico on the brain.

Black Rock Shooter by Good Smile: Won’t stop, can’t stop

Posted from The Citrus Report

We heard about the Black Rock Shooter awhile ago from a friend who had just bought one, and all we kept hearing about was how crazy the fanbase was. And then after having a few people talk about it this weekend to us, we just checked it out, and we have to say, not bad. The good people of Japanese creative production and product powerhouse Good Smile put the toy out, and there have been thousands of people pre-ordering the Black Rock Shooter, and it seems to us that this is the hottest figure of all of 2010. We have been looking on forums about this all day, and people are talking about it like its the Holy Grail right now, and because we don’t know vinyl too well, we are taking this as a major endorsement.

Good Smile also produced the animation of Black Rock Shooter, and you can buy the Blu-Ray here.

David Choe ‘Munko’ Vinyl Figures provided by Upper Playground

Posted from The Citrus Report

From our parents at Upper Playground… “Upper Playground has teamed up with Japan’s Good Smile Company to become the official distributor for David Choe’s “Munko” Vinyl Figures. The toys were initially seen as simple sketches on David’s blog, and now following the premiere of the physical Munko toys at San Diego Comic Con in Giant Robot’s booth, Upper Playground is the exclusive wholesaler and distributor for the line of figures.

We have continually been impressed not only by Good Smile Company’s detail and intricacy in their vinyl figures, but also by the innovativeness of their other ventures, and are very excited to begin this partnership between our two companies. The “Munko” line of figures comes in three unique sculpts: Munko, Munkosaur, and Munkette. Munko, is offered in 3 colors and 2 extremely realistic textures. Munkosaur comes in 3 color ways with one in a concrete texture. And Munkette comes in 3 unique color ways.

The figures are available in a set of all 12 toys and individually by blind-box. Both sale versions are available to the public at the Upper Playground web store, and the set is available to distributors exclusively by contacting our wholesale department at: wholesale@upperplayground.com.”
