Mike Giant “Confessions of An Old Dirty Skateboarder” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

Old friend Mike Giant is opening a show with our old neighbors Fecal Face Dot Gallery on Friday, July 20. Great name: Confessions of an Old Dirty Skateboarder. Says Giant, “I’m a product of my generation. I grew up through the 80s and was drawn to the punk rock and hip-hop cultures simultaneously. I threw myself in headfirst. A lot of those things were about personal expression, and also an anti-establishment attitude like, ‘We don’t need you, we have our own thing.’ That’s the backbone of who I am to this day.” Go see it.

Our neighbor and very talented artist, Mario Martinez (aka Mars-1) opens a new solo show at Fecal Face Dot Gallery this Friday, November 11 in San Francisco. We can’t believe it, but this is Mars’ first solo show in SF since 2005. Colin M Day just made this video, “Mars-1 x Everything Under the Sun” to coincide with the exhibition.

Mars-1 @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery opens November 11, 2011

Mars-1 x Everything Under the Sun from Colin M Day on Vimeo.

Because of the fire in the Lower Haight last month, Fecal Face Dot Gallery has moved to a new non-permanent location in the Inner Richmond in SF, and their first show will be Mars-1. The show opens on November 11, 2011, and they have a video to kick things off. Go. Check. It. Out.

Also in their front gallery , FFDG will be opening 11.11.11 featuring curated paintings and illustrations from a group of international artists that have caught our eye in the last year. These are some of the most exciting visual artists emerging today. Artists include Nathan Brown (Montreal), Ryan Bubnis (Portland), Huey Crowley (New York City), Ryan De La Hoz (San Francisco), Lola Dupre (Glasgow, Scotland), Hamishi (Melbourne), Russell Leng (Vancouver), Charles Martin (New York City), Eric Shaw (San Francisco), and Winnie Truong (Toronto).

As we are celebrating a one-night or more show with Swampy this Saturday, June 11, our neighbors at Fecal Face Dot Gallery will be doing a great one as well, with Mel Kadel and Travis Millard. We are really big fans of both of their work, so we are going to have to do some double-fisting on Saturday. Except for AK, she doesn’t drink.

Fecal Face has a nice interview they just posted with the artist they are showing opening this week, Josh Keyes. The show opens this Thursday, April 7, the same time our sisters at FIFTY24SF are showing KMNDZ. Keyes’ Magician’s Garden looks like it will be another gem from the very talented Portland based artist, with the work getting even more detailed. We are excited about this one.

At Fecal Face Dot Gallery this Friday night… “West, Wester, Westest Part 2″

Our new neighbors, Fecal Face, have their first show at their new space in the Lower Haight, West, Wester, Westest Part 2, featuring curation by Ryan Travis Christian. The show will be Chicago-themed, well, almost Chicago-themed as one artist is from NYC (Ted Gahl, whose work is above) and one is from Oakland, Rogelio Gamez. But the rest are from the great city of Chicago.

Here is what Ryan Travis Christian had to say: “In the second iteration of West, Wester, Westest, I’ve once again chosen a selection of emerging and mid-career artists that A) don’t regularly exhibit in SF, if at all. and B) create work that “throws a wrench” so to speak, into what FFDG regularly shows. As a long time fan of Fecal Face, I’m honored to have such an immense platform to expose these artist to the world on. In terms of style and/or concept, these artists produce works that are very forward thinking and often experimental, throughout various mediums. The works exhibited, will run the gamut of content, from grossly disturbing to humorous, to bold and beautiful abstraction and then back again. Please join us @ FFDG’s new location in the Lower-Haight (248 Fillmore @Haight) on March 11th for the opening reception of West, Wester, Westest Part 2, I will be in attendance.” -Ryan Travis Christian

Very excited t0 have Fecal Face Dot Gallery on the block. Good shows and good art ahead.
