The Sound of Silence | ANGELA DALINGER

“Swimmin’ in The Playground” is a new Group Exhibit at FIFTY24SF GALLERY, next to our flagship UPPER PLAYGROUND store curated by SFSWIM. The show is currently displaying work from artist, Angela Dalinger.

A quick glance at Angela Dalinger’s work committed me to hours of independent study that offered more than just dystopian images that made my dark side grin, but a crash course of investigation into her soul. A resiliency; a depth of mystery that felt like the real sense of “cool”- exploded from the imagery and interviews I read. Unexploited, raw and genuine.

It was so refreshing to feel the images of her Art Brut style paintings encapsulate a deeper knowing of suffering on an individual, societal and even fictional level.

This is my perception of the dark, witty drawings and paintings rendered by German born illustrator, Angela Dalinger. At 32 years of age, Dalinger knows what she wants and it’s not the big city, bars and heavy metal shows. It is the peace and silence of a small village outside Hamburg, with 100 occupants, that offers sounds of nature and silence, allowing her creativity to flow.

Dalinger’s Comic book, “The Werewurf,” explicitly showcases the delectable irreverent wit and and re-contextualization of a man/werewolf that is actually a Weremole musician shape shifting into a mole at the dawn of a full moon heavy metal show.

Getting absorbed into the snapshots of life and tragedy in Dalinger’s work took me into a reverberating silence. The kind of silence where everything is visible and invisible at the same time.
