DISSECTED PORTRAITS BY MICHAEL MAPES

Michael Mapes creates, or sometimes re-creates, portraits of people by putting together pieces of photos and other objects, all placed in cases reminiscent of the cabinets used by entomologists for their insect collections. The boxes exist in an uncanny area between photography and sculpture, functioning both as portraits and as fascinating scientific canvases that make you question the the logic behind the organization of each piece.

Mapes’ portraits are like swarms of smaller portraits of the person they depict: tiny versions of the original portrait or dissected parts of it are pinned on the board, or are sometimes set inside small transparent vials and behind magnifying lenses just like scientific samples.

Swedish illustrator and graphic artist who’s based in Barcelona Klas Ernflo has produced a diverse field of graphic projects – both independently as for clients. All of the artist’s projects show his incredible sense for colors and patterns. His most recent project is highly impressive. Consisting of 18 separate boards, Ernflo created a large work showing his signature organic forms, a wonderful sense of humor and tremendous colors.

Using ink and oil paints gives them a sense of craft and technique that allows us room to appreciate the subtlety and graceful nature of each form individually. This consideration for each character makes it even more impressive when they come together in one magnificent tapestry of shapes and symbols.

How about this soon? We don’t know about you, but there is a good chance that this might have been a good idea. I mean, we got diabetes in our generation, and there is a good chance this baby didn’t. It wasn’t eating Fruit Loops and McDonald’s, it was just having at it with a toddler soda. And really, there was a Soda Pop Board of America? (via)

Steve Jobs Steps Down as CEO of Apple

r STEVE JOBS RESIGNATION LETTER large570 Steve Jobs Steps Down as CEO of Apple tim cook Steve Jobs resignation CEO Apple

Yep, Mr. Jobs is quitting the job. The big “iQuit” if you will. He will be taking a new position as Chairman of the Board. Long-time fellow employee and former chief operating officer Tim Cook will be Apple’s new man in charge. What does this mean for Apple? Are you worried? Steve doesn’t sound too concerned. Here’s his resignation letter if that’s any consolation:

“To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.”
