The oil paintings of Barcelona-based artist Cesar Boijo start with a portrait that is immediately destroyed, creating a mesmerizing image shifting between creation and destruction. Boijo combines realism and hazy dream-like sequencing to examine time, and the nature and existence of human beings. Check out select paintings below and visit Cesar’s website, cesarbiojo.com.
Our contributing photographer, Henrik Haven was at Aalborg (Denmark) to shoot works in progress at WE AArt – a public art event featuring new murals by Aryz, Alexis Diaz, Escif, Liqen, Interesni Kazki, Jaz, Fintan Magee, Kenor and Don John.
Here’s the first part of his coverage beginning with freshly finished murals by Barcelona artist, Aryz, Escif and Kenor:
About WE AArt
Aalborg deserves, being one of the larger Danish cities, an interesting and not least inspiring urban space. The reality of today is that very little contemporary art enriches Aalborg – or the people living in it. Street art – public art – already exists in Denmark, and can be seen in particularly larger cities. WEAArt is, however, the first festival in Denmark to be focusing entirely on murals.
A space created to surprise, marvel and excite – and susceptible to alternative artistic arenas.
WE AArt is a private initiative.
WE AArt are: Lars Bonde and Mads Mulvad
WE AArt is a project than will run for the next three years.
Barcelona based artist, ARYZ, world renown for his elegant murals of gargantuan proportion has recently completed his third mural of this year. Standing at least 13 stories high, the new mural titled ‘Príap i Demèter‘ is in Granollers, Catalunya.
His previous mural before that titled ‘Tempus fugit‘ was installed in Lagos, Portugal, where a lonesome skeleton takes pose with his floating camera:
Before Lagos, Aryz was in Linz, Austria with another gigantic mural, ‘Overprotection‘ jealously mad dogging the city river.
We anticipate more beautiful murals to come, equally ambitious and elegant. We’re keeping an eye out in anticipation of his next move. To be continued.
Munko Whale, David Choe, Aryz and Retna hanging out and catching fumes in Los Angeles :
ARYZ visiting Los Angeles after finishing a large-scale mural in San Francisco, began a collab mural with David Choe that they started together Tuesday:
RETNA came by to check the progress of the collab mural and added his own touch the neighborhood:
Upper Playground with Fifty24SF Gallery and Chris Shaher of WallspaceSF (who curates all the walls in San Francisco) came together for Barcelona artist and famed muralist, ARYZ to help him complete his mural in the city of San Francisco.
Through rain, wind and sun, ARYZ climbed into his lift each day for a full 10 day’s work to complete his giant mural Sunday. San Franciscans have been curiously keeping an eye on the work in progress, impressed by how the mural was taking shape through the week. Fans of Aryz who heard news of his next mural came to the Tenderloin district to better observe the master at his work. The mural standing approximately 7-8 stories tall features a young woman silently gazing over the city. Located at the corner of Polk Street and Eddy Street we hope the mural will be welcomed by the city and remain for a long time for all to enjoy.
To see more of ARYZ’s work and his highly anticipated first solo show in the United States, STYLE is THE LIMIT, please visit our Fifty24SF Gallery Wed.-Sun. 12-6PM Mon.-Tue. by Appointment. 218 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA 94117 http://www.fifty24sf.com.
