Thanks to video network Great Big Story, we can witness the bright and wonderful sub-culture in Japan that sees regular cargo trucks pimped the fuck out into an awesome display of neon lights and colors, which the locals call “Dekotora” (an abbreviation for “decoration truck”).Commonly displaying neon or ultraviolet lights, extravagant paints and stainless or golden exterior parts, on both on the exterior and the interior. Dekotora may be created by workers out of their work trucks for fun, or they may be designed by hobbyists for special events.

While the trucks are a spectacle in their own right, the purpose of Dekotora isn’t just to flex your pimped out ride, or for any monetary gain, but rather a practice rooted in spirituality–an art of precise decorating that takes years to complete.
